Brochures, business cards and other printed materials, aren’t just about the design.  One of the most important considerations is the paper that you use.

We work with our clients to get a full understanding of the project before we make paper recommendations. These are just some of the things that need to be considered when planning your next project

Are you going to be sending your brochure in the post?  To keep your costs down you need to consider the weight of the paper.

Do people need to be able to write on the paper? If they do, uncoated paper is the best option.  Coated and heavily textured paper can make it much harder.

Is the paper likely to be subjected to water and rain? In this case, you need to think about a paper that’s resistant to water or an additional coating to protect the surface.

Do your designs include bright colours that need to pop? Uncoated papers easily soak up ink whereas coated papers will showcase the sharper detail and denser colour of your images and text.

How durable does your printed piece need to be? If your printed piece has to last a day or so, then you don’t need to be as cautious with the paper selection. But if you’re expecting it to last a long period with ongoing use, it’s advisable to use a thicker, better quality stock that will stand the test of time.

What values and quality are you wanting to portray with your printed material? If you work within a premium business then it’s recommended to work with premium paper stocks and high quality coatings such as UV and soft touch to meet your audience’s expectations.

Environmental considerations We only work with FSC® certified suppliers to give you the confidence in the paper stock that we use.  However certain coatings and inks make it harder for your final print piece to be recycled so tell us about your company’s environmental commitments.

How content heavy are your pages going to be?  The opacity of the paper is important, particularly if you’re printing on both sides as it can be unsightly and distracting if you can see content coming through from the other side.

Speak to our team about your next print project and we’ll advise you on the best paper options to suit your budget and project objectives.
